Skiing at Kronplatz: a self-catering ski holiday in the Puster Valley
Kronplatz is the ski mountain at the heart of the Puster Valley and part of Dolomiti Superski. From the Übersteinerhof in St. Lorenzen the ski area is about 10 km away, and in the evening you return to your quiet farm apartment.
Ski holiday at Kronplatz: the ski mountain of the Puster Valley
At 2,275 m, Kronplatz is Bruneck’s home mountain and one of the best-known ski mountains in South Tyrol. Its rounded summit is served by lifts on every side, and the runs lead down into the valley in all directions: to Reischach and Percha, to Olang and to St. Vigil. At the top, all slopes meet again on the wide summit plateau, so switching sides is effortless.
As part of Dolomiti Superski, your ski pass is valid in one of the largest ski networks in the world. The 2026/27 winter season at Kronplatz runs from 28 November to 11 April. Thanks to modern snowmaking, the main runs are reliably groomed even when natural snow is scarce.
Kronplatz Dolomites ski area: lifts and valley stations from the farm
From the Übersteinerhof above St. Lorenzen it is about 10 km, or 17 minutes by car, to the valley station in Reischach near Bruneck. From there, and from Percha, Olang and St. Vigil, gondolas take you up Kronplatz.
Runs for every level
Beginners and returning skiers find long, wide runs at Kronplatz such as Hinterberg or Alpen, where confidence grows turn by turn. If you like a faster pace, intermediate runs such as Pramstall take you down to the valley at a steady gradient.
For sporty skiers, the black runs Sylvester and Herrnegg with almost 1,300 metres of descent are the real challenge. On the Erta you ski where the women’s World Cup giant slalom is decided by hundredths of a second. Arrive early at the valley station and you will have the freshly groomed slopes almost to yourself.
Sellaronda: the ski circuit around the Sella massif
With the Dolomiti Superski pass you can ski not only Kronplatz but also the famous Sellaronda. The circuit loops around the Sella massif over four passes, Gardena, Sella, Pordoi and Campolongo, linking four Ladin valleys: Alta Badia, Val Gardena, Val di Fassa and Arabba. You cover about 40 km of runs and lifts without skiing any section twice.
The tour can be skied clockwise (orange signs) or anticlockwise (green) and takes experienced skiers about a day. Detours are well worth it along the way: from Arabba up to the Marmolada glacier, the Queen of the Dolomites, or from Passo Falzarego up the Lagazuoi and down the Hidden Valley, one of the most beautiful descents in the Dolomites.
From the Übersteinerhof you drive through the Val Badia to Corvara or Colfosco in Alta Badia and join the Sellaronda right there. Set off early, as the last lifts back close in the afternoon.
Ski lessons and ski schools for kids
More than 200 instructors at the Kronplatz ski schools teach skiing, snowboarding, telemark and cross-country skiing, in group and private lessons. The little ones learn their first turns through play on dedicated practice areas with magic carpets.
After their lesson, many families head straight on to tobogganing or other highlights of a winter holiday with kids in the Puster Valley.
More than skiing: on the summit of Kronplatz
The summit plateau is worth a break away from the slopes. Messner Mountain Museum Corones, built into the mountain by Zaha Hadid, is dedicated to traditional mountaineering, while LUMEN shows over 150 years of mountain photography. Next to them, the Concordia 2000 peace bell rings every day at noon.
On a clear day, the view from the summit stretches across the Dolomites to the glaciated peaks of the Zillertal Alps and the Rieserferner group.
Your ski day from the Übersteinerhof
In the morning you drive the roughly 10 km from the farm to the valley station in Reischach near Bruneck, where parking and ski rental are right by the lift. In the evening you return to the peace and quiet at 1,130 m, far from the bustle of the ski resorts.
The 95 m² farm apartment sleeps families and groups of up to 8. Ski boots dry overnight in the warm boiler room, and after a day on the slopes the farmhouse parlour with its wood stove awaits. On days without a ski pass, you can set off straight from the farm for cross-country skiing in the Puster Valley.
