Summer at Kronplatz: hiking and biking in the Puster Valley

Trails start right at the farm, the Dolomites are a short drive away and Kronplatz has routes for every level. The Übersteinerhof in Maria Saalen near St. Lorenzen is your quiet base for summer in South Tyrol.

The 95 m² farm apartment sleeps families and hiking groups of up to 8. After a hike you sit out on the sunny balcony, and with the South Tyrol Guestpass you reach many trailheads by bus and train without moving the car.

Hiking from the doorstep: from Maria Saalen into the Puster Valley

The farm sits above St. Lorenzen near the pilgrimage church of Maria Saalen. From here the Way of the Cross leads down to the village in about an hour, past the hamlet of St. Martin below Michelsburg castle. Around St. Lorenzen, the Legends Trail and the Archaeological Panorama Trail on the Sonnenburger Kopf tell of legendary figures and the Roman way station of Sebatum.

From the family loop to the climb up Kronplatz, our hikes from the farm come with starting point, walking time and elevation gain.

Hiking in the Dolomites: Lake Prags, Fanes and the Three Peaks

Beyond St. Vigil lies the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the Pederü car park you walk in about three hours past the Fanes hut to Lake Limo and the Gran Fanes pasture, one of the finest alpine pasture walks in South Tyrol.

From the farm you reach Lake Prags in about 45 minutes and the Three Peaks in a little over an hour. For hiking in the Dolomites we have put together trailheads, trail numbers and the drive from the farm.

Mountain biking and e-biking at Kronplatz

The cycle route from Bruneck to St. Vigil runs right through Maria Saalen, so you get on your bike at the front door. Sporty riders circle Kronplatz over the Furkel Pass in just under 49 km, while leisure riders roll along the Puster Valley cycle path and take the train back.

At Kronplatz the gondola in Reischach carries your bike to the summit, where the legendary Herrnsteig trail drops some 1,300 metres to the valley. For mountain biking and e-biking at Kronplatz you can choose between leisurely tours and trails.

Kronplatz in summer

In summer the gondolas from Reischach and the Furkel Pass run up to the 2,275 m summit. At the top you find Messner Mountain Museum Corones, the LUMEN Museum of Mountain Photography and the Concordia 2000 peace bell, with views from the Dolomites to the Zillertal Alps.

If you prefer to walk down, hike from the summit via Stefansdorf back to Reischach: a long but technically easy route with wide views.
